About Mathew Humphries
Mathew Humphries is a fine-line artist, painter, and designer whose work explores the intricate balance between organic form and precise geometric structure. Born in Lakewood, California in 1976, Mathew developed his visual language through relentless personal practice, keen observation, and disciplined execution.
While Mathew holds no formal fine art degree, his creative philosophy was deeply informed by his background in the culinary arts. The rigorous discipline, acute attention to detail, and compositional balance required in high-level culinary work seamlessly translated into his visual art. Following years in demanding commercial kitchens, artwork became a vital sanctuary—a grounding practice for navigating workplace trauma, PTSD, depression, and living as a disabled artist. MAthew has also worked very hard to stay sober from drugs and alcohol. His detailed line work serves as a form of meditation, transforming complex personal experiences into quiet visual order.
Today, Mathew operates his independent art studio out of Fullerton, California, continuously expanding his catalog of original paintings, limited-edition prints, and custom apparel. Navigating ongoing physical and financial struggles, his artistic practice is made possible through the generosity of dedicated patrons whose support helps cover essential living expenses, rent, and studio supplies—allowing him to keep creating.
“Whether building a composition on paper, canvas, or print, the goal remains the same: transforming raw line and structure into something quiet, balanced, and enduring.”
